Fire Ban

Open fires and the use of fireworks are banned and prohibited within the Town limits of the Town of Grand Lake, effective as of 5:00 PM, Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
 For the purposes of this ban, open fires shall be defined as any outdoor fire of any type, including but not limited to campfires, warming fires, bonfires, fires in pits or barrels, chimeneas and fire pits or other similar burning devices; slash burning; wood and charcoal fueled fires; igniting fused explosives; igniting fireworks of all kinds and brands, including fountains, pinwheels, sparklers or torches; burning of fence rows, irrigation ditches, fields, wildlands, trash and debris; and smoking outdoors (i.e. anything from food to cigars, cigarettes, pipes, and legal and illegal drugs).
 This fire ban excludes fires contained within liquid-fueled or gas-fueled stoves, grills, or lanterns with a buffer cleared of all vegetation on all sides for at least three feet; fireplaces within buildings; and smoking within enclosed vehicles and private homes/buildings; welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame when a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher and a round pointed shovel with an overall length of at least 35 inches is with the equipment operator and within the immediate area readily available for use.
 Violations of this fire ban shall be enforced by the Grand County Sheriff's Department and any other peace officer with authority in Grand County, CO. Anyone starting, maintaining, or permitting an open fire shall be responsible for any and all costs associated with extinguishing the fire and for any damages caused as a result of the fire as well as all fines and penalties allowed by law.
 Section 7-2-4(b), Fireworks, of the Town of Grand Lake Municipal Code prohibits the sale of any type of fireworks, including fountains, pinwheels, sparklers, or torches, within the town limits.
 The 4th of July fireworks display in Grand Lake on Wednesday the 4th has been cancelled.
 Due to the unusual and very high fire danger conditions, the conditions of this ban shall be in effect until amended or rescinded.
