The Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest borders the Town of Grand Lake to the south. This area is managed by the Sulphur-Ranger district of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and manages land for a variety of recreational activities like camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing, hunting and much more! This region includes the Byers Peak, Never Summer, Indian Peaks and Vasquez wilderness areas. Learn more about wilderness areas here.
The USFS also manages the Arapaho National Recreational Area (ANRA), a 35,000-acre water wonderland that encompasses five major reservoirs near Grand Lake: Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, Monarch Lake, Willow Creek Reservoir and Meadow Creek Reservoir.
